At the John King Brain Tumour Foundation, we are constantly reminded that the kindness of others has the power to make a lasting difference. Sometimes, the most inspiring stories come from those whose lives have been touched by the care of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St George’s Hospital.
Following the Charity Walk on 25 July 2026, we were delighted to hear from Daisy, Matron of the Neuro ICU, who shared a truly heartwarming story with us.
A former NICU patient Poppy, her mother Claire Copeland and their family joined the walk to support the unit that once cared for them. Wanting to give something back, they threw themselves into fundraising, reaching out to friends, family and their wider community. In less than a week, they achieved something remarkable, raising an incredible £3,000.
Their generosity is about so much more than the amount raised. It is a testament to the compassion they experienced during their time in NICU and their desire to help ensure that future patients and families receive the very best care.
Daisy described the family’s efforts as “truly incredible and inspiring”, highlighting the time, dedication and commitment they invested in supporting the cause. Seeing a former patient return to give back in such a meaningful way is a powerful reminder of the lasting connections formed within the unit.
